Every household could do with an extra bit of storage space. The question is how to create that storage space when there isn’t a lot of room to play with in the first place. Fortunately, there are solutions to such problems. No matter whether you live by yourself and need somewhere to store all your biking equipment, or if you are part of a growing family which has plenty of children’s toys to put away, here are a few ideas on how best to create extra storage space within your home.

Hooks

Hooks are a brilliant invention and they do not simply have to be used for hanging up coats. Whilst it is always useful to have a rack which will neatly store the coats away, hooks can be utilised for so much more than that. Any type of clothes can be stored on hooks. A coat hanger is an extremely versatile device and can hold everything from jumpers to socks! Arranging hooks at different heights on a wall is the best way of ensuring that the entire family doesn’t have any excuses for not hanging their clothes up properly.

Bedroom Furniture

The bedroom is often one of the rooms in a house which is expected to store the most amount of stuff. Fortunately, cheap bedside cabinets are easy to find, and they are an ideal way of hiding away any favourite books that you want to read before going to sleep every night. From pine bedside cabinets to oak bedside cabinets, there shouldn’t be any problems when trying to find a cabinet to suit the décor of your bedroom. The other obvious place to store things in a bedroom is under the bed! Rather than just throwing things under like a student or child would, it may pay to invest in some low plastic container boxes which will store important things like documents safely.

Shelves

If the ground space is pretty full up, it makes sense to work upwards instead. Shelves can be attached to almost any type of wall and can be a real godsend when it comes to storing everything from books to blankets. What is more, a well-placed shelf will look good in any household room. Most shelves are pretty cheap to buy and can be assembled using basic DIY skills. It is, of course, also possible to buy shelf cabinets which are traditionally used to store books or ornaments.

Tidying Up!

Often, all that a household needs to find extra storage space is to have a good old fashioned tidy up. It is much easier to find things and keep them in their proper places when a house is clean and tidy. There was a reason that our grandmothers used to have a spring clean every year. Whilst it is clearly impossible to keep things 100 per cent tidy all of the time, try not to let things get out of hand. Neatly folded clothes take up less space than clothes just thrown into drawers.
